Bell UH-1Y Venom Specs, Interior, Cockpit, and Price – The Bell UH-1Y Venom is a marine utility helicopter capable of carrying out ship operations throughout the world, including taking off, landing, refueling and rearming. This helicopter can be secured for deck movement to Sea State 5. The automatic flight control system has a stability control augmentation system (SCAS) with four-axis pitch, roll, yaw and collective passive control failures.
Pilots can choose other operating modes from the flight control system: heading, attitude, speed, cruise, altitude and hover-hold, hover wave-off and force trim. The wave-off mode causes the helicopter to change from flight conditions on binding to the pre-selected terminal speed. Trim style allows the pilot to reduce the control force to zero.
The FLIR BRITE Star Star thermal imaging and laser designation system is installed under the nose. BRITE Star consists of a three-dimensional thermal imager based on a 3 to 5 micron indium antinomide focal plane arrangement, high resolution CCD TV cameras and eye protection and laser markers. This system replaces SAFIRE AN / AAQ-22A and SAFIRE Bintang AN / AAQ-22C (also made by FLIR Systems) which is currently installed on UH-1N.
The communication package includes the US Navy standard AN / ARC-210 radio, UHF / VHF communications, COMSEC, friend or enemy identification APFF-100 (V) IFF, satellite communication interface with high power amplifier and tactical data modem.
The machine guns chosen for the UH-1Y are M-240D, GAU-16 and GAU-17A. The 7.62mm GAU-17A aircraft engine gun can be fired by one of the crew members while in a position to keep going forward.
